News in Brief: The Jockey Club, Ukash, Betinternet
The Jockey Club Racecourses has signed a deal with loyalty card scheme Nectar that will allow card holders to redeem their points against tickets for horse racing events. The company owns 14 racecourses in the UK, including Cheltenham, Aintree and Epsom. Points will be redeemable against race meetings at courses such as Aintree, Cheltenham and Haydock Park and information about the Jockey Club Racecourses deal will be sent to 10m households in the UK. Online payments firm Ukash is set to launch its pre-paid card services to consumers in South Africa. The service will be available in more than 200 terminals located in Shell Select petrol station shops. Chief executive Mark Chirnside said: "Ukash is already available to an estimated 226 million European internet users who don't have or don't wish to use credit or debit cards online. I'm pleased that South Africa's 5m internet users will soon have the chance to use Ukash when they shop, play and pay online." Webis, the parent company of Betinternet, has extended its sponsorship with Newmarket racecourse to include seven further races in May 2008. In addition to the previously announced sponsorship of six races from Newmarket on Friday 16 May, the Company will now also be sponsoring all seven races from the course on Saturday 17 May. Three of these races will be shown live on Channel 4, with the entire card being covered by Racing UK. On both days, the Company will have complete branding coverage throughout the racecourse and paddock areas. All races will be branded under the Company's sportsbook portal, betinternet.com.
